It is early in the 2025 PGA season and all of the big names are due to begin the season in Pebble Beach. This year it is a designated event which means a limited field and a lot of money and FedEx points at stake. As players come into the PGA Performance Center for assessment and treatment it is always great to assess their conditioning status. The functional movement assessments and tests we perform lets us know if their off season programs targeted the deficits they ended last season with.
Many have prepared well. It is interesting to see as they have amped up their practice demands over the past month to match the competitive environment of tournament play how ready their bodies are. Certainly we would not expect any major injuries but minor deficits that are detected now can become major ailments in 2-3 months. So it’s very important to do a thorough assessment and whatever the findings clear them up as soon as possible. Although findings may be minimal they must be addressed.
Equally important is to address them without alarming the PGA golfer. You don’t want them to feel that their off season preparation was inadequate. You want their mind and body to start the tournament positively. Therefore HOW you explain any findings that you will address with treatment must emphasize that they are minor and are not major dysfunctions. I emphasize this by saying we are just “fine tuning the Ferrari, not doing any overhauls”. This will keep them positively focused on playing great golf early in the season. Overall it will equate with them playing great golf all year!
